To investigate the Shade tolerance of turfgrasses, the present experiments were conducted.
Zoysia grasses, Kentucky blue grasses, Hard fescue and Manhattan perennial rye grass were grown under four levels of light intensty; namely 100, 75, 50, and 25% of incident light, during the summer of 1970.
Kentuky blue grasses and Hard fescue were grown more vigourously than Zoysia grasses and Manhattan perennial rye grass under the low light conditons. Windsor kentucky blue grass was grown well under full light conditions of summer. Delta and Park showed relatively strong tolerance to shade while the other varieties of kentucky blue grass did not.
